7 Stardew Valley Combat Builds for Damage, Defence and Loot

These Stardew Valley combat builds range from a reliable all-rounder to a ridiculous Loot Goblin. The 1.6 trinkets give us more ways to specialise, and that is where things get fun. Pick a build for the job you want to do, rather than expecting one setup to be best at everything.

Before copying a Stardew Valley combat build

These are late-game setups. You need access to the Forge for combined rings and weapon upgrades, plus Combat Mastery for the trinket slot. Use a strong available weapon while working toward Infinity equipment; you do not need to postpone every mining trip until the final build is complete.

The listed ring pairs are two combined rings worn in your two slots. You cannot combine two identical rings into one, but you can wear two valid combinations that share an effect. Read the recipe as a complete setup rather than trying to wear four separate rings.

Balanced damage and Fairy healing

Before we get to the crazy build that you can use to absolutely decimate your enemies, or the build that will literally make you rich. Let’s start off with the well rounded build. This is my starting point for a general-purpose build. Start off with either the Infinity blade or the Infinity Gavel. This is based on preference. The sword is reliable, attacks fast and is extremely consistent.

The Gavel’s special attack can destroy hordes in seconds, but it is slow and you’ll be relying on the special move. Use the Fighter and the Brute profession. Enhance your weapon with Rubies to greatly increase their damage. Grab two iridium bands with two ruby rings. It is a strong, straightforward damage setup. Now for the enchantment… Crusader is my preference for Skull Cavern. Artful is another useful option for a hammer-focused setup.

This will make you do considerably more damage to ghosts, and you’ll be able to defeat mummies without bombs. Now back in the day I’d suggest that you use the Vampiric enchantment But with the addition of Trinkets this has changed completely! The Fairy trinket is by far the best option for this well rounded build. Make sure that you use the anvil to reroll the fairy until you get a Level 5 Fairy.

It will cost you a ton of Iridium bars but it is most definitely worth it. The healing helps, but still bring emergency food. A Fairy is not a guarantee that you can survive every hit. The Fairy makes this build beyond reliable.

A defensive tank setup

Okay let’s move onto something interesting… As you know there is a dangerous version of the skull cavern, and if you use Monster musk in this version of the skull cavern it gets tough. Look at the hordes of enemies we have to deal with, fortunately there is a way to be so tanky that this challenge is more manageable… If you don’t mind sacrificing damage for defense, grab the Dwarf Dagger, a weapon with a strong innate defence bonus.

Otherwise pick your favorite Infinity Weapon. Now enhance this weapon with Three Topaz’s, this will further increase the defense. Then combine two Crabshell rings with two Topaz Rings, another twelve defenses!! We will be making use of the Vampiric Enchantment this time and don’t forget that new book called Jack be Nimble Jack Be Thick! Wear the Dragonscale boots for another seven defense and Finally eat some buffed up Mango Sticky Rice.

The exact total depends on your weapon and food; check the resulting defence rather than assuming every substitution has the same total. And with the Defender profession you’ll have Bonus Health. Again use a Level 5 fairy and you’re all set. You take almost no damage and you’ll be healing from both the Fairy and the Vampiric enchantment. Give it a try, It makes a big difference, but healing supplies and positioning still matter.

Stack healing for a fun experiment

This isn’t an official build but what if we maxed everything that can heal us. Combine two Vampire rings with two iridium bands, use any weapon with any enhancements. Just be sure to pick the Vampiric enchantment, use the Fairy trinket and check this out. This build most likely sucks, but it is fun to see you go from zero to one hundred health in mere seconds.

Not quite as fun as the money printing machine you’ll see later in this guide.

A ranged Slingshot build

Okay this build is going to shock you… The combat in Stardew Valley is and always will be Melee focused. However this won’t stop me from making a Ranged build work, and even thrive. Combine two iridium bands with two ruby rings, this is crucial and makes a huge difference. Get yourself a Master Slingshot and now for the ammo. The best ammo with the highest damage is the almighty tomato!

Okay, no it’s iridium ore. Yeah, this build is expensive but it’s good, trust me. Ensure that you have the fighter and the brute profession as those do indeed make a difference. Now for the trinkets… There are two trinkets that we can use here and it’s up to personal preference. First we have the Magic Quiver. This will fire an arrow every few seconds, giving you two ranged attacks!

This is painful but a Perfect Magic Quiver is a useful reroll target. It fires quickly and adds consistent support damage. It’s not bad, it's much better than a non perfect quiver. The one problem with this build is that when an enemy gets close to you, it’s hard to hit them. Especially those extra annoying flying enemies. The Ice Rod Trinket can almost alleviate this problem all together!

The Ice rod trinket will simply fire an orb of ice and freeze enemies in place. A Perfect Ice Rod is a good target using the Anvil so that it fires every three seconds. When enemies are frozen in place, just fire at them from safety and decimate your foes. To be honest the Ice Rod is also really good for regular melee builds, flying enemies that are frozen in place stand no chance against your Infinity blade.

But yeah, Really nice that Ranged builds can indeed work In Stardew Valley.

Critical hits with the Golden Spur

Crit builds have changed ever so slightly with the addition of the new and improved Golden Spur Trinket. Daggers are most definitely one of the more annoying weapons in the game to use, but they have the highest crit rate. Especially the oh so lucrative Iridium Needle. Okay, get the iridium needle, enhance it with three aquamarines and then enchant it with the Crusader Enchantment.

Grab yourself two aquamarine rings and combine them with the very reliable Iridium Band. Now ensure that you pick the Scout combat profession and the Desperado Profession. This is built around frequent, hard-hitting critical strikes; the exact chance depends on the weapon and modifiers. This is all normal, however the new Golden Spur trinket will cause you to run faster every time you crit! Ensure that you reroll the Golden spur until you get a boost that lasts for ten seconds!

Combine this with coffee and spicy eel and gosh darn it. You will be zooming around the skull cavern, causing you to be even more unreliable with your dagger! Perfect if you ask me.

The Loot Goblin

This is the build you have been waiting for! This will make you rich! In both Gold and loot! This is the Loot Goblin. If you are greedy like me, then this is perfect for you. Grab any weapon, enchant it however you want. Make sure it’s capable of destroying enemies easily. Make sure that you use the Crusader enchantment as defeating enemies is crucial for this build to succeed.

Then combine a Hot Java Ring with a Lucky ring, and the Burglar Ring with Another Lucky Ring. The Hot java ring will cause monsters to drop coffee when you defeat them Nice. Make sure that you have the Monster Compendium book as this will give you extra loot, it is a separate chance for additional ordinary loot. Now get yourself the Parrot Egg Trinket. Level four is the target, but it only becomes available after 2,250,000g in lifetime earnings.

A lower-level parrot is still useful before then. Do not waste Iridium trying to roll a level your save cannot obtain yet. Now use some monster musk and crash into the mines in style. Every enemy you defeat will have a great chance to give you random loot, they also have a chance to give you coffee, and with the parrot they have a chance to give you gold as well!

There are so many enemies to defeat when using Monster Musk, you can leave the skull cavern absolutely loaded with items to then sell for a profit! This build is not the strongest, but gosh It might just be the most fun… It is just satisfying, filling up your inventory so fast that you’re almost forced to leave valuable items behind… The Burglar’s Ring and Monster Compendium do not multiply the Parrot’s gold coins or your chance to obtain trinkets.

The two Lucky Rings are useful for a broader adventure, but they do not increase the Parrot’s coin chance either. Monster Musk increases eligible spawns; be ready for the extra pressure before applying it.

Bonus: send enemies flying

Do you not feel like having to deal with the enemies in this game? Well, you could just Yeet them away for ever. This is the knockback build. Get yourself an Infinity Gavel, enhance it with three Amethysts. Then wear two Amethyst rings! All of these will massively increase your knockback stat. It seems like it wouldn’t do much, but it allows you to send any flying enemy into the shadow realm.

It will also Yeet melee enemies as far as they can go. It’s not a good build, but it’s gosh darn funny.

Which combat build should you use first?

Start with the balanced setup if you want a straightforward answer. Switch toward defence if surviving is the problem, or toward loot once you can comfortably defeat the enemies you are farming. Ranged and knockback builds are experiments for a different style of play.

Budget Anvil rerolls: each costs three Iridium Bars and the result is random. Keep a usable trinket while you work toward your ideal one. Carry food even when you have healing equipment, and keep your escape item somewhere easy to reach.

The best build is one you can control reliably. A theoretical damage increase is not worth much if the weapon feels awkward and you keep getting knocked into a corner.
